I'm Spencer and I am a complete n00b when it comes to lockpicking. Near the end of 2012 I decided that lockpicking would be an interesting skill to take up do I started stalking the forums to see what they were like. I ended up buying the PXS-14 from lockpickshop (thanks for the 10% discount!) and managed to pick my first few locks. I managed to pick a brinks 4 pin padlock and my house deadbolt (yikes it was easy!) After reading more, I learned to never pick a lock in use so I need to start my collection I guess. Habitat for Humanity if I'm not mistaken has locks for sale that I could easily mount to a piece of wood... We shall see!

Found this forum while looking for info on how to use lockpicks. I don't think I have as much of a passion for lockpicking as some who post here. Its more a hobby that I'd like to take up and learn. Plus I figure I could then help those who need assistance whenever. I find the whole art of lockpicking a fascinating one and would like to learn a little about it. My initial interest goes back to my Naval communications days when we had huge tumbler locks on our Ships Comcen doors (back then I was on HMAS Vampire), and we had enormous problems with one lock that refused to open some days... it was old and crotchety. I'd love to have known how to crack that and fix it, and that was 30 yrs ago (guess I've always been a slow starter!). Purchased my first set of picks and hope to start fiddling soon.. got a few old padlocks I want to play with for now. I can see an good business in this...

Hi My nickname is Quu and I'm from Canberra
I'm interested in learning more about lock picking and recently bought a pick set online for $8.00 AUD
I gave it a go on my first (only lock i had handy) last night = ABLE AM88/50 = 5 pin, inox springs and mushroom pins.
After about 4 minutes I opened it to my amazement and now I have it down to 2-3 minutes, I figure was ok for my first lock to try.
Now I'm hooked and would like to lean more
I have no idea what tools I require to open more advanced locks, i have no rakes just a 9 piece set and would like to try some harder practice locks if available.

Greetings

I have dipped in and out of this site over recent years, but thought I would register now. I work in government security, and occasionally out of amusement or curiosity rather than call out a locksmith or chop off a padlock I have had a go at picking it. I've bought some basic tools off websites linked from this site, and not only is it fun but if (and I do mean if!) picking a lock is ever successful it does wonders for the kudos with colleagues! Had reasonable success with most simple padlocks and furniture locks, and a few cylinder locks. With global recession and Government austerity measures being what they are, I haven't ruled out the idea of training as a lock smith with my redundancy money if I get the old heave-ho ;-)
