Picked lock, plug won't turn.

Postby AikiTao » 18 Jan 2013 18:31

Alright, so I just got my lockpick set today and I'm completely new. To open the lock, I have to apply pressure on the key counter-clockwise. When I accidentally tried to pick it when applying pressure on the torsion wrench clockwise, I actually turned it but obviously, didn't open it. Now when I try the correct way, I seem to be getting stuck on the middle and beginnin pins (closest towards the keyhole.

I start at the end and work my way towards me using a hook pick. Raking doesn't seem to do much. I can provide a video if that helps but it won't be that detailed. Any suggestions for getting those annoying pins or any helpful techniques that may work better?

what type of lock is it that you're trying to pick? and when you say you're getting stuck on the middle and beginning pins, do you mean they won't push up? maybe try picking them in a different order.

I've tried a dozen diffeerent ways. It seems like the middle one still always wants to get stuck.

Do any of the oth pins move? The middle pins may already be set. If they are, they will not move further unless forced above the shear line.

It seems like the back pins will set but once I get past that, either the middle pins push back with spring pressure or they won't budge period.

Rather than starting at the back and working your way to the front, try to find which pins are binding first if you can. It may help. You may also be having a pin in the back that is a security pin, is being overset, or sets high enough that one of the middle pins is being lifted before the back pins are set.

Good luck,

Gordon

If you are over lifting a pin try letting off on the tension wrench just a little. You will here the over set pin click down with a very soft click.
