ok so the first lock i ever picked was a 30 year old lock that unlocked when you used a paperclip to press a button in the back

It sounds like some really old warded type lock.
The best lock pick is C4 followed by a sledge Hammer

Sounds like a privacy function lock such as that found on a bathroom or perhaps bed room door, in which case it is neither a pin, wafer, warded, or lever lock.

Aaaaah, you mean the ones that lock by pushing the inside knob in and turning it? Then you insert a metal rod, toothpick, or pretty much anything else into to open.

yes when you use a paper clip to puch in the button and turn the knob but when you let the knob go it locks back

They are still used, and still very common for indoor locks like bathrooms and bedrooms where you really don't need the security of a regular keyed lock. That is of course unless you have a really bad room mate.

The most common is Kwikset, they're cheap and what most builders and contractors put into houses.
