Cutaway Locks (What should I look for)

Postby IndigoChild » 11 Mar 2013 22:10

I am thinking heavily about getting some cutaway locks so I actually know whats happening inside the lock. I get that you dont need to see it but if I can mentally see what I am doing with practice I feel I would make a fierce lockpicker. I am looking to get this one http://www.lockpickshop.com/MCMCL220-SRH.html but If you guys know of a better place to get them let me know. I see that they dont have any variety, I would love to get a medeco air cutaway and a biaxial as well. But I cant find anyplace that sells them. Also what should I be looking for in a cutaway to make sure I get the best bang for my buck.

I agree. Snowyboy's cutaways belong in a museum! Reasonable pricing, too.

This has been really helpful. The unfortunate thing is I think I am the best lockpick in the shop. The others only do better cause they use snap guns. But I dont believe in using kinetic picks. I want to learn to do it the real way.

One the job use whatever is faster. On your own time is where the hobby aspect should kick in. For me it's in and out as quickly as possible on a lockout. If that means using a knob puller, manipulating a tailpiece, or whatever, that's what I do.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!
