If you are a beginner, then my advice is to put that lock aside and get a new lock which you can take apart. Then start with one pin only, then two pins and so on. You need to get a feeling about what you are doing before you can open that Brinks.

Of course it´s doable right now but it won´t learn you much if you get it open with pure luck.

Well... I am still a noob for the most part but I have a Ace brand lock with a mean spool pin in it. I found a way to pick it with an overlifting like method...

I've only been picking for a couple of months and the hardest padlock that I've picked thus far is a Yale Y90B/45. Very funky keyway with really long spools.

I just bought a 5 pin brinks shrouded padlock, a round shapped one with an upside down keyway. I have only been able to pick a few times.

The hardest I've had yet is a master lock that's all plastic and you leave the key in it while it was open it still takes me about 30 min to pic it . Lol I can literally yank it and break it w my bear hand but its a mother to pic

I think the hardest lock I have picked is a toss up between a Schlage Everest mortice and a MTL Interactive 5 pip, also a mortice. It took me a week of trying before I got the MTL, so it is probably that one. I know that isn't a padlock, but whatever. :)

I am by no means an expert as I just started picking myself about 2 months ago. I also bought the Brinks lock from walmart and after about two days of trying different picks and methods I figured it out. Use a Southford TW-02 tension wrench with a Southford S rake SP-11 or MP-12. Put the rake as far back into the lock as it will go. Wiggle the rake back and forth applying Light pressure to the wrench. as you wiggle the wrench pull it forward a little bit then push it right back to the back of the lock. Should pop open in 15 to 20 seconds. If not start over and try again- don't fight it. Light pressure and the back pin is the trick- Practice- If I can do it anyone can -

Videx CyberLock.

It counts--it was in a padlock body!

And... you picked it?

WOW!
Go ahead, keep plugging away, picking on me! You will end up on bypass or with rigor mortise.

The Brinks R70 for me. I think it has a couple spool pins. I can do it now fairly quickly. It s funny how muscle memory seems to learn the set order and pin height.

I will try one of those American 5200's soon. These better security locks ain't cheap!

Definitely my American 5200 Series padlock. I've had it open a few times, but I have to admit that so far it has been more luck than skill.

-- I have a tendency to write hasp when I mean shackle. It's a bad habit, but I'm working on it one day at a time.

If you find my insistence that you pay me to do something unreasonable, you probably shouldn't be bothering me at work.

My hardest padlock was an American A1100 series that was custom pinned. They normally have 6 chambers and only 5 are utilized but this one had 6 spools and 6 serrated key pins. It took me 5 hours but it really taught me a good lesson on varying my tension.
