Tips on picking this Schlage?

Postby GWiens2001 » 20 Mar 2013 1:18

This post goes out with a special hello to Zeepia and Wizer.

Got this Schlage lock today, and it is putting up a mother of a fight! The key works fine, and there are no security pins. Any ideas? With a keyway this open, it should be easy, right?

Thought you all might enjoy this lock. Yes, the new Schlage Disklock. As bump-proof as an Abloy! It was tossed in with a Box-o-Abloys. I just about flipped when I saw it.

I think it's a joke

It was probably Gordon himself who put the abloy Discklock pro(right?) core into that Schlage body... :D
I guess it would confuse people if not for the key being present..:D

Does it work all right too?

Code: Select all
 As bump-proof as an Abloy!
 AS bump proof...

But he best is definitely:
there are no security pins.
   You sure about that? I've heard protecs and dicklocks have lot a of spooled pins.... :D

Love this post Gordon it literally made my day! :D

Ps: Since it's only a Schlage we can discuss all about it in the open right?

(mods: Please don't lock it, I promise I won't, it was just a joke!)

Yes, I did post it as a joke. However, somebody else put that DiskLock KIK into the Schlage housing. It had no key, so keyed it to another key in my possession.

The lock was in a bag of Abloy locks and parts given to me by a local lockie. They said they had not cut an Abloy key in over 10 years, and had no use for the stuff in the bag. 2 locks with keys and cards (one a classic mortise, one a DiskLock mortise), this lock, four other DiskLocks without keys (half euro, 2 cam locks, and another mortise), 8 more cut keys, and the grand prize... a pair of padlocks (also DiskLock), keyed alike, one being a factory cutaway!

The only downside to the padlocks is that, while keyed alike, there is no key. Being a cutaway, sure that using advise that Wizer (GREAT guy) gave me, will try making a key. This being an open forum, not advanced, please don't ask me for his advise!

Needless to say, I was astounded at the gift of Abloy, and appropriately thankful. And it wasn't even my birthday!

You are indeed lucky!
I'd kill for a bonus like that

A factory cutaway for a disc lock. That is... beautiful!
Go ahead, keep plugging away, picking on me! You will end up on bypass or with rigor mortise.

@ARF-GEF,

Glad to have made your day! :-) And yes, the key (now) works perfectly.

Hate to be picky, but that isn't a mortise cylinder.

What is it then? I always get a bit confused on that topic.

So I didn't get it was a joke and gave a bad name to the kik container. I knew it wasn't a mortice since it has no thread around it, but it was an almost correct name that came to mind this morning. It's a RIM cylinder :)

Sadly I don´t get those bags of Abloy locks here! They use all the parts to the end...

Good one, really! Those cutaways are hard to get items. At least with the amount of money you spent! :P

Although it looks like a rim cylinder, it's not.
It's actually part of a deadbolt.
By the looks of the tailpiece, it is the outside half of a double cylinder deadbolt.

Well thanks for the clarification, you could have said it earlier... so deadbolt it is.

Cheers :)
