GLK 10pin dimple (yeah, cheap one!)

Postby fgarci03 » 21 Mar 2013 14:18

Today I got a very cheap dimple lock to play with (father's present!)

It's a two rowed, 10 pin dimple. 5 pins each row.
The pin chambers are very close to each other, wich difficults picking a bit. At least in theory. If it had a better buid, it would be awsome. But the binding order of this one is very straight forward. So I pick each row at a time, and it's not too difficult to set pins without disturbing others.

It has no spools or other measures of security, so I'm not going to disassemble this one for now. But here are the pics of it:

By having 2 rows, on the rotation of the plug, it blocks 2 times. Not a problem, just a statement!

As I said, this is a very cheap one with a GREAT feedback from the pins. So it's easy to pick. Takes a while as there are many pins, but it's very straigh forward.

I find these cheap fancy dimples a great way to learn and practice high security features like these, but on an easily pickable lock. So I'm going to thank my father now

Maybe in a near future I'll repin this with a couople of spools and anything I'll remember at the time to keep improving
Go ahead, keep plugging away, picking on me! You will end up on bypass or with rigor mortise.

I think i might have asked it thorugh PM but I think it might come handy for others later as well

I'm considering buying a dimple pick very similar to yours. Its just made by goso and I think yours is SO.
Do you like yours?

Also you've mentioned that the Southord and Goso are the same. Are you sure they are absolutely the same?
I mean are they made-in-the-same-factory-just-labelled-differently same or a cheap-knockoff same?
I'm a bit worried about the Goso-s quality. It seems you love your SO so the format itself should be suitable. (?)

I haven't seen a Goso set yet. So I can't be absolutely sure.
But I have discussed this with Solomon some time ago. He states that they are the same.

The GOSO ones come with a box. These don't (for me it's not a problem as I have a custom case). I have, however, seen that they come with diferent wrenches. And the cheaper one has one extra tip I believe. The reviews of the DX one are very good so I guess that if it's not made in the same factory, they are good knock-offs

Yes I do
About it's quality. I can't be sure, but they seem to look alike. So unless they are made with some cheaper metal, they would be the same thing.

It's a tricky call. I don't want to tell you to buy the SO because you may be paying more for the same thing. And I don't want to tell you to buy the DX because they may not be as good.

But now I think I would risk to buy the DX. Solomon is light-years ahead of me and he likes the DX. So they can't be that bad :P

Wrong name there, sorry, I wanted to congratulate You Fgarci, but I was simultaneously checking out one of femurat's posts which I really liked too.

I think I'll buy the Goso. Probably PM Solomon before though.

Thank you very much for the infos! :)
