Brinks 5-pin really only a 4-pin?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

I don't think there is anything wrong with Felipe. The American version is Philip. I thought your name was Felipe.(?) So I for example called you that because I was under the impression that that was the correct way to spell in in Portuguese.

Think it's unrelated too

Most likely. :)

When we used to rule the world!

Exactly that period. :)

many of us share the same points of view in many things

Yeah I guess this is because this is such a specific hobby that attracts similar people. Or maybe this hobby/job also shapes people's mentality in specific ways.
To infinity... and beyond!

There's no problem at all. I just found it funny
Go ahead, keep plugging away, picking on me! You will end up on bypass or with rigor mortise.

Yes you can, of course!
Just don't understand one thing. You're not the first to call me Felipe after I said my name is Filipe. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind at all. I just wonder why that happens  Does Filipe has a weird meaning there? Or it's about the pronouciation of the word?
I'm asking this because both people who called me that are American
Again, this is just an observation, don't take it as if I'm pointing something!

Hehe...nope, that was my error. I am more familiar with the spelling 'Felipe', and I simply didn't pay attention when I was typing my reply.

fgarci03 wrote:As for the spools. I used to think like you and had a very small experience with spools because I though they were too advanced for me. Only had worked a couple of tryings in a 3 pined lock before picking this lock.
Then I realised spools don't make picking more difficult. It may, in some situations, make picking easier. The only diference is when you set all the pins, the plug doesn't rotate because there are some false sets, and you have to work your way through them again. But the picking process itself doesn't get harder. It just needs extra work. In fact, with the tolerances that the spools give the lock, you may sometimes feel a clearer feedback on the pins.

I'll have to keep that in mind and find a lock with spools that I can try to see how it goes. I also have locks with no spools that I still can't pick, so perhaps you're correct...I hope so!

It's funny, I've already discussed this with another member. It's great to see that although the distances and generations gaps (I don't know your age ARF-GEF, but Mikeh727 has said before he has a son, so he's probably way older than me) many of us share the same points of view in many things!

Yep, I probably am a little bit older, but we do share the same points of view on things, even with the age gap.

That key sure looks like a 4-pin to me, notwithstanding the number. I once bought a 4-pin Brinks padlock when I was just coming back to picking, because it said high security on the package. It opened the first time I jiggled a three hump Bogota style pick. I then single picked it in about 30 seconds. The key looks similar to yours.
