They all use the same pins, dunno whether to call them serrated or double spooled but you know what I mean anyway. Doesn't matter of it's a standard one or a pExtra etc, the pins and countermilling are the same (from what I've seen anyway). The higher security ones I've played with did have ball bearings but they were passive key control elements which don't need to be picked. mhole wrote:I'm with Squelch - they're eeeeaaasy.
I kid, they're the devil. I think I took at least 10 minutes for the fastest one of those, and more like 15-20 on the rest, and that's leisurely TV picking. On site the rotary pick would be coming out fast, and one of those actually has the opposite end drilled.
Very well done mate, that's an impressive stack! I really need to practice more on these. I have one in particular here which I made a key for so I could learn the feel for the pins progressively... it's easy right up to 4 pins, then as soon as the 5th goes in I can't pick it to save my life. The bitting is pretty tame, so it's frustrating to say the least.

Congrats Squelchy and mhole, every time I see a new lock I'd like to pick, you've already done it! Can't wait to join the club. Rick don't give up, you can do it! Cheers

Femurat,
Did you make the key by impressioning? If so, how did you determine the proper place for the divot for the passive bearing?

Interesting anti drill feature I have never seen one like that before! I only know that hardened anti drill rod that goes through the whole plug of my S&G 951.

I don't think any other locks use this method.
BTW I thought the 951 used ceramic inserts. Many simpler lock cylinders use "simple" hardened rods. Or are the 951's specially hardened-hardened steel? What also confused me that many makes claim that the lock housing itself is made of hardened steel. Does anyone know something exact what these harnesses are in numbers factually? Or in comparison? I know it's hard to compare with home appliances but maybe some has access to special equipment or some literature:)

Well I usually do not share information on materials that may result in others stealing that sort of information for their on benefit (other companies for example) but we will see

That's the whole point of advanced. Only trusted and respected members main gain entry after a lengthy observation period as a simple member. They only let you in if they see it proven that you are a honest person and not up for evil. Post there are "confidential" so you are not allowed to inform people about posts there. The whole strict screening process is there to make it a "safe heaven" for infos you would not be comfortable throwing out for anyone on the internet but are willing to share with a few "select" people. When you get in see what the "climate" is like there and you can always decide whether to share or not and if you do how much

Yeah, it looks like this. mhole wrote:What's the story with the 4 holes on your key?
There is a cogwheel in the lock which engages into the holes. This is for protection against picking. Nice pictures: here
