I'm new to the site and the world of lockpicking. I just wanted to say thank you for the great site. I am actively serving in the USAF stationed in England. I have been in for 17 years and coming close to retirement. I have always been interested in locks/lockpicking just finally getting off my arse and actually doing it. I think I picvked up the knack for it at a very young age when I started picking masterlock padlocks with paper clips around the age of 12. I did not understand how it worked just that it did. I have purchased the Advanced Lock PickingTraining Kit from lockpickshop.com and been messing around with it alot. I also have rounded up an assortment of padlocks that I have found around work (some real good and advanced US military issue locks). Just wanted to say hello to everyone and look forward to reading and posting alot more in the future.

Hi there!
Found this place after getting a little bit more interested after playing with a friends set of cheap picks from deal extreme.
I am from the Uk so will initially be looking for some advice on a half decent starter set!

Happy to be here!

Welcome! I'm sure you'll get lots of advice for picksets. I recommend the starter set from the TOOOL site.

Hello,

I am new to the craft. I recently purchased a 14 piece set from lockpickshop.com made by Southord. I also bought myself the "Ultimate Challenge Lock" from learntolockpick.com. If you have any tips or recommendations please feel free to contact my by email or through the message center.
I look forward to working with you all.

I checked out the Ultimite Lock out. I'm curious to hear from you about what you think of it.
Also, for others: the site is actually learnlockpick.com

Hey everybody I'm new here as well, I've been picking for a few years off and on but I've recently made it into a hobby, I just got a master lock no.5 today and got it open a few minutes ago, still waiting for my ultimate challenge practice lock. It's great to have so much advice and help to browse through here. Happy pickings!

It would help greatly if you let us know what part of the world you are in, as lock types vary greatly in different countries. Do you know what kind of locks your friend picks? Can you list any that he has picked? Some people have different definitions of a hard lock to pick. Some people here can pick open Medeco locks all day long (not me), while other people never will succeed with one. Lever locks are very common in some parts of the world, and in other parts, people may never see one.

Greetings! Brand new here. I took a lock picking course at the local hackerspace last week, and I've discovered that locks fascinate the heck out of me. My first set of picks are on the way. :)
