Peterson Prybar dimensions? Photo with ruler?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Peterson Prybar dimensions? Photo with ruler?

Postby subver » 15 Apr 2013 14:20

Hey guys.. so I'd like to make a TOK tension wrench similar to the Peterson prybar.. does anyone have the dimensions of it? Maybe someone can take a photo of the prybar with a ruler from directly above?
Also, which do you guys prefer, the regular or lite?

I might actually buy one.. but I want to try and make one first.

Thanks!

I don't have a camera with me at the moment, so I can't help with that right now. But I can say that I rarely use the regular pry-bar. I have 3 of each in different cases, and they're the best tension tools around in my opinion. There are some European keyways that are too narrow for the lite, in which case I have some Peterson Flat-5s or windshield wiper tools around, but other than that, the pry-bar lite is my go-to.

I can appreciate your wish to make your own, and you may have a ready source of steel in the correct thickness, but even so, I'd readily recommend buying them. I don't think you'll regret it.

Yeah I think it's only $9, too.. I will probably end up buying one.. Will probably get the lite then.. unless there is any reason I shouldn't. I doubt I'll be picking any Euro locks anytime soon, though.

I use both but I find I use the regular sized one the most.. I use the largest one that fits. I'm thinking about buying a second regular one and sanding it down to 0.045" so I have a medium sized one :D

The width of my regular pry bar is 0.155" but my lite is 0.160" which is the only difference besides the thickness.

I took these measurements with my calipers and the graph paper is 5 square per inch.

The notch on each end is 0.108" long and 0.055" deep.
The short arm is 0.335" from the far side (0.180" from the near side)
The long arm is 0.585" from the far side (0.430" from the near side)

Cool I have been thinking of buying both the regular and lite and wondered what the difference of length was on each end. I don't know the notch on them to prevent it from hitting the first pin is needed I never have that problem with ones that don't have the notch and wished the prybar didn't have that on it.

I just ordered both Peterson Prybars. As far as I know, they're both the same size, one is just thicker than the other... I believe .05" and .04" respectively

Excellent purchase, subver. You definitely won't regret it.

You're correct on the difference between the 2 bars.
