Help With Lock ID

Postby Creaky Cactus » 20 Apr 2013 17:59

I've got a practice lock that I need help Identifying.

I got it at the local Habitat for Humanity ReStore, so there is no telling what it is.

It is a cylinder from a deadbolt.

The face of the cylinder and the face of the plug have nothing written on them.

It fits a Kwikset key, and I was able to rekey it using kwikset pins which makes me think that it may be a Kwikset, but the plug is retained by a threaded cap like a Schlage, and not a C clip like a Kwikset.

What should I call this lock?

Thanks in advance.

Call it Zeepia. That is a good, solid sounding name.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

But it's probably just a generic rim cylinder made in China.

These are the cheapest of the cheap. They are typically sold at places like Family Dollar, Big Lots etc. They often have really rough file marks where they make the pins fit the plug, and the retainer pin for the cap looks like a nail made from brass. They are so cheap the only name to be found is likely on the packaging material.

Usually that brass plug is only brass on the front cover plate, with the rest of the plug being either a form of plastic or cheap pot metal.
