The door to a 1997 Chevy Astro Van. A customer dropped it off for service before we opened this morning. The keys were locked inside. Once I got through the door, I discovered that the ignition key was so worn that it felt like I had to pick the ignition despite the fact that I had the key in hand.

If you find my insistence that you pay me to do something unreasonable, you probably shouldn't be bothering me at work.

I finally picked my KABA Gemini! Oh the wonderful feeling of a worthy opponent defeated.... http://s1358.photobucket.com/user/Natha ... 6.jpg.htmlIt only took me a few weeks of trying. Honestly, I really only got to pick after work a few days of the week, but every second I could, I was out in my garage working on this one. I have to say, things got way easier after my Southord 15 Piece dimple lock picks came in the mail this past Tuesday. I was really pleased with the results and happy I purchased them. I had seen videos of people (not everyone, mind you) raking the lock open. I really wanted to SPP this one, so that is what I did. I even took a little time warming up to pick one of my MTL Interactive locks. It was way easier with these picks! I had just been using a couple of Peterson hooks before to pick them. It worked, but these are just so much better. If anyone has been following my progression, this felt like a really big step for me. Gemini has been picked!

Congratulations my friend! Neither a Gemini nor an Interactive are easy tasks (I still can't pick neither ). That is indeed a big step! I'm soooo jealous right now! Good one man!

Thank you for the kind words, and great score for $4.oo! I would be so happy to find a cool lock like that for that price. Is it re-keyable? If so that is a great find. Let me know when you start on that Gemini. I don't have advanced access, but you can PM me. I would be interested to see your take on it and your approach to picking it. I had considered getting the GOSO picks and may still do so. I hope you will tell me how you like them? Nathan

I actually used two Peterson pry bars side-by-side so I could get a top of the keyway tensions. Made for more room to pick from the bottom. I don't want to say too much because I think this might be advanced lock stuff. You can PM me if you want. There are still questions I have about this lock in particular and dimpled locks in general... I have quite a few dimple locks and this was the only one I have been able to pick so far. Although I have picked it a few times, I haven't taken it apart yet. I know I should because that would probably answer some questions. Perhaps this next weekend. I am now working on a Sargent Keso, and the KABA 8. Not to mention a Medeco cylinder... There is much to do! Not to mention that tomorrow when I get to work there should be a KABA Micro waiting for me in the mailbox! And thank you for the kind words, it is very encouraging. I know you are quite a talented chap!

I really like the Schlage Everest too! Nice picking, what did you use to get the "seventh pin"?

A half diamond and a short hook work. The seventh pin is on the bottom of the keyway at the right. So I insert the pick sideways and rotate it to lift the pin!

Probably a better idea! And today, just as I had thought, there was a KABA Micro waiting for me in the mailbox at work. I have already picked it a few times. It is very cool, and seems to be pretty similar to the KABA 8. Infact, it says KABA 8 on the key. Now I am even more confident that I can pick the others that I have! We will see.

You've gotta love them for moments like that Couldn't resist it for 5 bucks... and a "Free" hasp to boot! Anyways got round to picking it this evening and then cleaned all the rust off.
Sweet find! I would be very happy to find a nice lock of any sort for five bucks! Looks nice and weathered; I love that look, only time and the elements can make it happen. Great that the guts are in working order, you could pick it, but were all the springs and everything okay as well? Have any idea how long it was out there? Unless someone told you, it would be pretty tough to gauge I would imagine...
