Whats better street sweeper bristles or wiper inserts

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

If you are having trouble finding wiper blades and aren't afraid to get a little dirty just go to the nearest auto parts store and look in the trash can by the door. There were two wiper blades right on top the first time I looked, which netted me about 6-8 feet of spring steel. I already have two lockpick sets and just wanted this for tension wrenches and to make bogota picks so it was plenty for me. Should be enough to make a basic set though, three or four tension wrenches and a diamond pick and some others. If you are interested in how to get the steel out of the wiper blades I made an instructional video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvjGsGvTBWw&feature=youtu.be

Hereabouts all our wipers have a rigid plastic backing, no metal inserts. Material for picks is primarily hacksaw blades. HOWEVER! Have any of you considered going up to the street sweeper driver or ringing the business that is subcontracted by the city to do the sweeping and asking for some bristles? I did both and both times I got a handful of brand new unused bristles, in their v-shape, perfect, and for free! I explained honestly what I wanted them for, showed him ones I had already made, and the next time he went past my station he dropped off a handful. I offered to pay but he was happy to give them away.

It never hurts to ask, you never know, they just might say yes.
If it's stupid, and it works, then it's not stupid.
