Massive up shot in SPP skill

In the last two weeks my skill at SPP has gone through the roof. How did this happen?

I switched from mostly bottom of the lock tension to top of the lock tension. It makes a huge difference!

daniel, have you got some pry bar style tensioners yet? you may find the super rigid feel helps a lot with spools, you get great control on rotation/counterrotation.. just my experience though

Yes I have a peterson style pry bar and a much thinner pry bar that came with a mini wallet pick set. I also took some standard tension tools and bent the other end into a tension tool that has a very short top. This allows top of the key way tension work too.

Daniel, I have had the exact same experience. I switched to TOK with a 50mil Peterson Pry Bar about two weeks ago and I love it! I have a couple of other flat TOK tools, but I prefer the Pry Bar. Unfortunately 50mils is too thick for most of my Sargents, so at some point in the near future I will be filing down and reshaping one end of my Pry Bar to around 40mils. I know Peterson sells a 40mil version as well, but I'd rather have a single, more universal, tool.

I just got the thinner Peterson pry bar and it work great with picking abbus padlocks

I have both of the two different thicknesses. Abus likes the thicker ones. Most locks like the thinner. With TOK I aM able to hold the padlock much easier and control the tension better. Docjon

Congrats on your success. It goes to prove the old adage "The more I practice the luckier I get"

Tip: just when you think you got it all down pat, some simple lock will frustrate you. Just keep at it.

This tends to happen with time. This is why I stress to people who start out that they should SPEND time PRACTICING, that way they get the feel for lockpicking. After that, soon everything comes together. Until you hit the serrated pins wall, but once your over that, then you will be fine.

Using TOK tension made the biggest difference for me too man! And always using a vice.
