Locksmith training.

Postby bioggy » 11 Jul 2013 8:42

I have read all the stickies etc. but I got no idea on how to find a real decent one. Could any one recommend a good course to me? website etc.. I live in South wales all the courses I found are in england and theya ll try to get you going when they offer you free tools and I don't fall for that =x.

Any help or advice would be appreciated thank you :)

There is something to be said for having that piece of paper that shows you completed a structured training course, but you could also try to learn by doing.

Maybe get a piece of scrap wood the thickness of a door. Drill it and install a lock on it. Chisel out the other edge and learn to install a hinge. You can probably find the door hardware you need (hinges, locks, latches, etc) at a second-hand shop or a boot sale for very little cash.

When I was a kid our front door lock broke. My dad bought a new one and let me replace it. I kept the old one, fixed it, and used it to learn to pick locks. Over the years, I just picked up new skills as I needed them. Sometimes took classes here and there, as they were offered at locksmith conventions when I needed to learn specific things that weren't as easily learned on your own.

I am capable of picking locks and installing them competantly. I would just like to go learn to cut keys etc. as I can get it paid for, for me. I have money reserved for such things I think it is about £2000 - £3000. So I need to use it all in more or less one way I believe. Hence why I was asking :)
