Wow... I had to actually research this one... The tailpiece looks to be crimped on like someone else said... Have you tried unscrewing it by gripping the sides where it is crimped ? That seems to be the instructions on how to take it apart from : < Exterior link to a PDF technical manual for Master door hardware >It looks like the cylinder for that type of lock has a threaded cap on the end of it like Schlage, find the pin, push it down and unscrew... ~~ Evan

You might be able to unfold those crimps with needle nose pliers or punch and hammer. Upon re-assembly, fold/punch them back in or if the break (they likely will since it'd be a third fold) make new crimps beside the broken ones. You won't be able to do that too many times but it should get you by a couple times.

I have the same lock as that. I bought it at a Target when I was first learning how to pick. Just out of curiosity, why exactly do you want to take that tail piece off? I messed around with mine and the metal is very cheap. If you do get that spacer out, you will probably destroy the rest of the tail in the process. The metal can be shaved off with a little cheap screwdriver, I'm not sure what the alloy is but it doesn't bend; it tears. So if you just want to have fun and take something apart to see how it works; go for it. But if you want to have it work again as a deadbolt after you take the tail piece out, be careful and I wouldn't expect it to be able to go back together very well. Just my observation, just my two cents. Maybe you are more clever than I am and can find a way to make it work? About re-pinning it; you only have to re-pin it if you want to. You could put the pins in any order for picking, or put them back so the key will work again; your choice! I believe the easiest way to do that would be to put the plug back in and take the retaining piece off the top of the bible and load the pins and springs from there. Good luck!

Only thought I needed to take out the tail piece for the plug to work. I found a work away around that so I don't even have to deal with it. I got this lock purely to pick and take apart. Thanks for the help.

Good to hear you found a way to work around the tail piece! What did you do? I got this lock for the same purpose; just to take it apart and play with it etc.

Found an empty chapstick container and drilled a hole in it so the tail piece would fit to it.
