enough space to use a dimple pick next to a square rod-tension wrench?
That is the problem. Usual tension wrench blocks free enter and movement of the dimple pick. If you use usual tension wrench than some pin chanels will be isolated from dimple pick operation.
In gerda lock you have apply the tension force to that place( 1). On the key you can see small nose(2) which apply tension force from key/

At barrier lock you have apply tension force to place which is deep inside keyway.
