Nice work on that Gordon!! do you know who made it? I thought Biltema was a store over there?

Picked an everest today a few times, then figured out its easier to wedge a piece of wiper blade in the bottom of the keyway with a slight left hand twist to keep the bottom pin up.

Master padlock 1 and 3. I can rake both open but am much faster (and get more satisfaction) from actually picking it open. I've been working on a Lockwood padlock but am having no luck at all. It's much more difficult to feel than the masters and feels like the tolerances from machining are tighter. I'm not sure if they use any anti picking features ... or if Masters are just that much easier.

Blahahahah!!! Classic Quote. Dont mean any harm by that Miss_Stang but i can see you're kinda new to the Forum and probably the hobby. Yes, Masters are WAY too easy to pick, kinda like the padlock version of a kwickset. Having said all that, if you do find a master that has been out in the elements, gummed up with debris and very worn... well they are like a fine wine

Master Locks are fun. My wife and I recently started the tradition of her buying me a new and different lock every holiday. To start the tradition was a twin pack of Master No. 3's. They are definitely a confidence booster, they're the easiest lock I've picked (on par with filing cabinet locks, I guess) but when you start them out you can hit the warding if you're not careful.

Yesterday I picked a Master Combination lock (donated and previously in-use by previous owner), fun lock to pick. Had to turn the plug pretty hard once picked notwithstanding I was using a Peterson Prybar. Also, seems the plug only turns in one direction. Yesterday I also picked a 3-pin setup: Bump Halt, spoorated and serrated top-pins. They were fun, but the Bump Halt spring really wears me out and was tough on my government steel reach. Also handfiled two keys, one of them so that if I put a mix of security pins that are two tough into my lock, I'll be able to back-pedal.

Today I failed at extracting a key from a relatives truck door, really tanked my morale since I am usually good at this, thinking of getting the Peterson extractor pliers or another key extractor (the key seemed to wiggle around in the lock a lot.)

Just got done impressioning an Abus 83/45 with Bump Halt installed using a nickel plated blank (came with the lock 8) ); went like a charm, helped me get my morale back. I love impressioning!

Since I don't have any AKWP4 or AKWP6 blanks, had to make due with what was available to make key. (If you have the blanks for either the 4 or 6 pin, please PM me!!!

The divot in the lower edge of the key blade (below the #3 and #4 pin bits) is where one of the sets of bearings need to press into a divot on the key blank. On the other side, the bearings come in below where the key blade is cut off with my blank.

@YLF - funny how sometimes something that is normally easy as can be just does not work. Glad you got your groove back with impressioning the ABUS. Impressioning is fun.

Wanna be really jealous? I got it free because it had no key.

Picked it open to see how hard it was (pretty easy), then was going to impression a key for it. MrWizard (great guy!) mentioned it might be better to decode it and code cut a key so the lock would not get any marks on it from impressioning. So did that, and cut 2 keys for it. Did not show the keys i made for this one, because unlike much of my collection, this one might get used. Joked with my wife that I should put it on my suitcase next time we travel, and have a hidden camera of TSA trying to remove it.

You're right Gordon, a keyless padlock is useless...
That's why I made a key for this one

Nice impressioning job, femurat. Looks good. And your impressioning handle looks pretty reliable. :)

I'm getting really good at picking those disk padlocks with the upside down keyways.

I bought a U-Haul max security disk padlock last week and I can pick it open in about a minute now. The packaging that it came in says there is a Yale core inside.

:D

I can also get American padlocks open in as little as 20 seconds sometimes, but usually it's more like 40 seconds.

I have also been geting pretty good at combination lock manipulation. Can get certain master lock combination padlocks manipulated open in about 40 seconds. (For details on this little trick visit the advanced forums.... )

One of my challenge locks (One I've never SPP before) An unidentified Kwikset lock purchased from the ReStore, 5 pins with an apparent spool/security pin at pin 3 or 4 (still not 100% sure which pin I'm on a lot of the time) with a new Peterson pick. The lock was labelled with "Master Keyed" when purchased but I'm unable to confirm as I've never had this lock apart.

Image

Hopefully someone can help with what keyway this is. My closest guess from reading the forums is WR3/WR5 - but never quite fits (although the ward on the front appears bigger then the recessed keyway which appears about a quarter inch into the lock).

Image

As a bonus on this lock I can actually see the gap between the first driver and key pin when its unlocked, which make setting the first pin a breeze.

I would guess KW1 since it's a Kwikset.
