Is there any activity in the Finnish group? Seems like Jaakko stopped his blog and the Finnish lockpicking site is down.

There really is no "group". Just a couple guys picking locks in different parts of country.
But if a group would be started, I´ll try to be there.
Where are you from? I´m from capital-area.

Hello to all fellow finns!

I recently bought a lockpick set and got myself some cheap locks from Tokmanni and Clas Ohlson. I've been fiddling them quite a lot recently and have managed to open all of them.
tiirikointi.net seems to be gone as Rewt254 mentioned already, but are there any other places in the internet where finnish lockpickers hang out? Like an IRC channel or something?

I'm located in Jyväskylä.

Here I am, just been busy with my personal life and work, so haven't had much time to update my blog.

Että tervetuloa! :)

I'm from the same area as Jaakko. Seems like he has already enough stuff to do. Guess we'll have to wait for a while. Maybe more novice lockpickers come along and we can some day have a meeting. There's already 2 of us here!

Hi guys, from Otaniemi (Espoo). I would like to get started in the hobby and get together if possible. I have two questions so far:
1)What tools set should I buy?
2)Where should I buy it from?
I've been checking the online store that sponsors the forum and probably I would buy something from the Slim Line, because they say the tools are designed specially for European and Japanese locks. But I have no idea.
I hope I'm not asking nonsense stuff.

Thanks
Munchi

Hi, Munchi, and wellcome to LP101!
The questions you ask are common for all newbies, search LP101 and you´ll find all the anwers you are looking for.
Basically you need a small, not too expencive set to start with. I would choose perhaps Southord or Gozo. For first set I recommend you get a normal set instead of slimline. These will fit most low-security locks you will be practicing on and won´t bend/break as easily as slim ones do. Most new (and some seasoned) pickers use too much tension.
Read a lot. Posts on LP101 and some tutorials. For example "lockpicking detail overkill" by mr. Gibson who we know better as Solomon. The password used to be evva3ks. Search for that too.
Get some cheap pin-tumbler locks and practice, practice, practice!
If you have more questions, please post them. But in suitable forum (this is for lockpicking groups).
Anyway, glad to have you here, and Happy Picking!!!

Thanks for replying Wizer,
I've ordered a Southord normal set and got the tutorial as you recommended. There is so much information in that tutorial. I hope I'm able to cope with all of it with practice. I'm so excited to receive the set and get started.
Glad to be here and thanks again for the tips!

I've been asked to host a small lock/lockpicking workshop at a LAN/Demoparty event in Jyväskylä called Instanssi (http://instanssi.org/2014/). As far as I'm concerned, this would be the first lockpicking workshop in Finland(?). Being a pretty much of a noob myself I would naturally talk only about how pin tumbler locks work and show how to pick cheap chinese locks.

Is this a bad idea? Did Jaakko get any sort of reply from the police mentioned previously in this topic? There is a link to an URL where the reply might have been sometime, but it requires authentication. I guess the best way to make sure that there will be no problems with the authorities is to ask the local police department and see what they think. I'll post an update if I get a reply.

Would anyone like to participate in the workshop? :D

Great idea, I´m sure many visitors will find it interesting.
Jysky is so far from me I may not be able to get there, but if you need practice/show material, I could maybe borrow you guys some, PM me if you wish.

Yes, Jaakko did get a reply:

Poliisin suhtautuminen tiirikointiharrastukseen?
Tiedotus 25.04.2007 13:28

Poliisi ei näe tarvetta tässä yhteydessä kommentoida asiaa viranomaisen näkökulmasta. Harrastuksen valinta on yksilön henkilökohtainen valinta kunhan se ei ole lainavastaista toimintaa.

Hi.

I have bought my first lock picks about 5 years ago but it was just for fun. But lately I have been really addicted to this hobby. I thought that there must be others in Finland but I didn't found any website in Finnish that is still maintained. Lot of Google results are pointing to closed websites. This topic is the best I can find..

Why is all Finnish lock picking sites down? Where is everyone now? Here?

Is there a shop inside the EU that is selling Serrated Tension Tools? I cant find any and postage from US cost more than tool itself.

Is there any meeting etc here in Finland?
