Another "What padlock to use" question

Thinking of upgrading your door security? Getting a better deadbolt or padlock? Getting a new frame or better hinges? Not sure what brand or model to go with for your particular application? Need a recommendation? Feel free to ask for advice here!

Since then I acquired an Abus granit 37/55 from a friend (if you read this: thank you :) )
I still did not try the sledgehammer it is fat too nice lock for that.
But here are a few points: This is a very solid padlock but not ridiculously oversized.
Another pro is that it's panted all black so it's not flashy. Abloy padlock are very beautiful but I can barely think of anything padlock more conspicuous and flashy than a big fat chromed shiny Abloy lock.
In comparison the Abus granit is more "stay in the shadow but still do my job" kind of "guy". It's black, it's matt and looks fairly mean.

I agree an S&G Enviro would be really intimidating, a pity it does not fit. :(
The 37/55 I have has a shackle thickness of 11mm.

Since they will get in anyway, or destroy the lock trying, why put a $300 Abloy on there. Use a $15 Master lock and buy them by the dozen.

I think the aim with the padlock was to stop them from getting in.
I've just checked, the Abus Granit 37/55 costs around 130$. Far cheaper 300$ Abloy, that is why I recommended that.
We agreed that a 300$ padlock would be too much.
And also you will see that the "keep putting on master locks while they keep breaking it" is not the solution, but is actually the original problem why he posted:
And break the padlock everytime. My boss asked me to check what would be a good padlock to secure it.

Hmm, ok. perhaps a "puck" type lock then. as there is no shackle for them to pry or beat on.

You have the lid of the dumpster which is a lighter material than the body of the container -- beat on it long enough and any lock will break or rip a hole in the lid...

DOn't know how it's being handled now.
But I do agree with a puck type padlock. The ABUS Granit looks awesome too!
Go ahead, keep plugging away, picking on me! You will end up on bypass or with rigor mortise.

I get called out a lot with the company I work for to remove some of the larger nicer quality padlocks on trailers that are loaded full of brand new Harleys because the Truck drivers lost their keys. These locks are usually pick resistant and the shackle is hardened and too thick to cut with our 42" bolt cutters, so we use a Dewalt [xxx] with [xxx] on it or our [xxx] to remove them. Either way, it takes just couple of minutes to remove them... When it comes to padlocks, there is nothing within reason that you can buy that will stop them. When a lock is damaged beyond use by your vandals or thieves and it still remains locked, you will still have to find a way to remove them yourself most likely with a [xxx] or [xxx]. A lot of thieves in my area use these as well. Maybe you should look for deterrents. I have seen some locks that have a siren that sounds off when being forced (unless disabled with a key). You may have to just call a Locksmith or a Security Specialist or just get creative...Personally, I would just build a steel shroud and weld it around the padlock area with a hole that only two hands and a key can fit in (watch out for wasp nests though)... You could build a decent camera system yourself (post the peoples pics with reward on Craigslist for info on them) with the cost of some of these locks posted on this thread. Good luck!

Masterlock 2000 series for price/security it provides. If they are picking it then you need a higher security lock with harder plug to pick but if using brute force the locks make not much of a difference. Never been able to use bolt cutters. The choice you need to make is based on the attack they are using. To bypass it you can use petterson bypass with shim 2 people need to be their for that to work right, petterson by its self does not work. The people who make the jaws of life have a tool sold to firemen and law enforcement only. Im a license, bonded locksmith and can not get one. You should see the hydrolic door spreader, solid steel door and frame 20 seconds to open from time the guy starts to put in frame. Its a few grand, you could make your own but not the same. For pad locks they have a v that goes in the shackle and pop's almost every thing but it take one person to hold and one to hit with a sledge hammer. If it nots in a too populated place they will go for the foor or side after awhile.

Like I said previously, just bend some metal to form a steel shroud and weld it around the padlock area with a hole big enough that only two hands and a key can fit in it. Even a simple to pick lock would be a p.i.a. with this design and there is no way to cut the lock without a torch or cutoff wheel. If they're willing use those tools then no lock is going to work...

$20 Stanley Hardware 60mm is perfect for this. Pickable, inexpensive, 11mm shackle. I don't think they could hammer it off.
