Those are sweet locks, I don't know what you are talking about! Is that a MTL Interactive?

Pretty sure it is a classic MTL. The Interactives do not have visible warding at the front of the keyway.

That is some good picking, Rick! Just to let you know, what is common in your are is rare here. MTLs are around, but rare. Never seen a Kitemark at all in person, let alone in the wild.

The last lock (AZBE) - never heard of it. What can you tell us about it?

@fgarci03 Sweet!! never seen that technique before :)

@Rickthepick dont understate what you did... the MTL is a challenge on its own!

@Gordon You guys in the US may know this... A "Kitemark" is just the official stamp of the British Standards Institute, not a Manufacturer. You can probably see the "S" & "B" in there somewhere and its linked up with a couple of diagonals; looks like a kite, hence the name. When a product is approved by the BSI with whatever tests they do for that type of product, they then allow the manufacture to stamp a Kitemark on that particular model of product.

No Worries Gordon :)

I believe that some of the smaller/cheaper/unheard-of Manufactures tend to put it on their locks as if to "Hey its cheap and nasty BUT it has passed Basic security testing by the BSI". Anyone like Yale or Chubb tend to proudly put their name on the Lock! I think the ABS AVOCET has the kitemark on the front, so it doesnt always translate in to "Crap Lock".

Anything with a kitemark in the UK is usually a tough pick.

Although locks are starting to be graded via the ts007 1-3 star standard now depending on how secure they are destructively and pick/bump/impression wise.

The mult lock is a 7x7 garrsion btw.

I have a bag full of locks 'to pick' just don't get the time to practice

Got some new locks today.

I just picked the Kryptonite 850434 70mm Round Stainless Steel Padlock (Product link: http://www.kryptonitelock.com/Pages/Pro ... ber=850434)

It has a weird feel, and I think this one needs to be lubed or something. But, I was able to get it open within a few minutes after trying a few ways of applying tension. When a pin is over set, instead of lightening tension, I used my pick to slightly rotate the plug in the other direction (while still applying tension) and that worked great.

It is my first round padlock. It has 5 pins, but I do not think there were any security pins at all. Disappointing. Kryptonite has realistic security ratings though. This lock is not highly rated by them. It comes alone, or with the Keeper Chain 880, which has a good medium security chain for bikes, but this padlock. It has no security rating, unlike another lock which uses the same chain, but has an integrated disc detainer lock.

I SPP'd the same lock in a few seconds (before, I raked it). Kryptonite makes soft pin tumbler locks.

What did you pick today?

Postby intelarms » 16 Aug 2013 17:01

For real.

At the office, an office mate accidentally locked an old file cabinet where the key had disappeared back in the 80's. The next day I brought in my tools. It took longer to zip open the pouch and choose the pick and tensioner I wanted to use than to open the lock. Perhaps about ten seconds. First time for real. I did hurt myself though. My arm is not designed to pat myself so hard on my own back. I should have fist bumped myself!

Awesome! I like those homebrew picks. How're you liking the Peterson tools?

Thanks, I'm really happy with my rakes - my hooks have been less successful, and I definitely prefer the Peterson hook (It's now my "goto" SPP pick).

I'm loving the Peterson picks - light, thin, comfortable handle, and far better feedback then my other picks (and that's with the carbon steel picks, thanks again for the recommendation). I don't think I've used another tension wrench since I got the prybars either.

Nice work on those SFICs! Now to see if you can pick them to the control shear line and pull the cores!

I have to agree with you on the Peterson picks; ever since I got my first set of Peterson picks I have never looked back. Love the pry bars and they are for sure my go-to hooks as well. Nice choice!

BiLock, picked blind because there is no key.

Image

You can see the sidebars are out of their channels, so it is picked.

Does anybody know how to disassemble this lock? I see no clips or retaining rings as on the other BiLocks I have played with.

I have a video of me picking a lock (done a few minutes ago). It is a test video for my Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvdH0sk2b8k

It is the same Kryponite padlock I posted about before.

It is short and mainly to test my new camera and video editing ability, but feedback is welcome. Plus, it is a video of a lock being picked, and I think we all enjoy that to some degree.
