Avocet 6-pin Euro cylinder

Postby steve6690 » 16 Oct 2004 10:43

Firstly, can anyone advise please whether these are good quality and secure ? I don't mind spending a bit of money to buy more secure ones if available. If I decide to change them how do I remove them from the UPVC door ? I have removed the fixing bolt but the cylinder is still held in place by the cam, which seems to be fixed. I don't really want to mess about until I know how to do it properly.
Thanks in advance

To remove the lock insert the key and turn a little to line the cam up with the lock body then it should come out. The cam in its normal position is at either 5 or 7 o'clock depending on which side of the door you are on.

As its 6 pin it should be ok but more importantly make sure the cylinder is flush with the outside handle when fitted.
If it sticks out too much past the handle it can be opened using a bypass technique to break the lock.
Geting the lock out stumps a lot of people as i have found on a few jobs i have attended, also getting the right sized lock is a pain as there are so many different sizes and offsets. I carry loads of these in my van in silver and brass and also with thumb turns and yet i always get the odd one i cannot match exactly as i havnt got it in stock.

Thanks for the help. I've removed it now. It is definitely 6 pin and has an anti-drill pin as well. It does fit flush with the outside handle assembly so no chance of gripping it. I managed to snap the key off in the lock last week and was panicking because I couldn't lock it. I have another complete door in the garage so my first thought was just to swap the cylinders over but I couldn't remove the one with the broken key in it. Three hours later we removed the broken key with a modified pair of tweezers. So my hobby now is lock picking..... :)

Avocet

Depends some of the Avocet stuff was total crap & priced accordingly, but the later stuff was quite reasonable. My info is going to be out of date as I have not been in the Uk for 18 months.
