Opinion for a beginner

Postby mooommo » 31 Aug 2013 18:38

I am wondering if anyone can tell from the video/ my description what kind of pins are in there. I bought it as a cheap lock (15 bucks) from canadian tire. The binding order feels lke 132134 and i think that the 2nd pin is serrated but i have no idea. I am asking because i am new and have no clue what i am doing. My rake does not fit in the keyway so i can't tell you if i can rake it or not.

Looking at the key in your vid (8 seconds) you only have a 4 pin key. You may want to take a look at the FAQ and learn a little more about what you have and how to work with it.

Your better off starting learning how to pick a cheap defiant door knob or kwikset before even contemplating spool pins, then move on to serrated.

mooommo was only here for one day, he probably won't read this. I guess others may though.
While I'm here, I guess I'll throw something in. That lock is more likely to have one or two spools rather than serrated. The keyway looks friendly, and it's only four pins, so it looks okay for a first lock. Looks he was using a little too much tension though, and trying to force it.
