Nice work, fgarci03. I see you used my take-your-boots-off technique. Works pretty good!

Indeed! I went for a jog just before picking it. I just don't show that off on the video
Go ahead, keep plugging away, picking on me! You will end up on bypass or with rigor mortise.

Good thing. It would qualify as either bypass... or destructive entry!

Nice work Milock!

Is the key handmade? It looks like that it wasn't cut by a machine, but it could just be because it's old and used...

Today I picked a Magnum Euro Profile (Superior series 2302) cylinder that I got from Israel(eBay). I got it picked in around 15 minutes the first time and a bit longer the second. I didn't look at the key at first because I wanted a challenge but it seemed to just click into place pretty quick. Despite the warding in the keyway it still felt pretty roomy to move my picks around in there even with a tension wrench. I used a Peterson reach and SO flag pick.

I took it apart to see what is going on in there...

Seven pins in a zig-zag like pattern:

I am holding it so that the sidebar doesn't come out. And for the sidebar there are four sliders:

That's about it. It is a fun lock to pick although not as challenging as I thought it would be. The sliders were pretty easy to get into place because the tolerances aren't that tight. The lock has a lot of play in it and I don't think there are any security drivers in it, although I didn't take the time to check. It was getting a bit late and I have to get up early. I will take the pins out and have a look at them pretty soon to see for sure if there are any spools. I have doubts about it but there may be a few; as I said, it was a bit hard to tell because of the looseness of the tolerance. Hope you all enjoy!

I've been working my way through improving single pin pick techniques on my lips cutaway lock (roughly cut with a double bladed hacksaw), and today finally also picked the intact side.

Today I picked a 6-pin Euro profile lock stamped on the front with DMK. I believe this used to be a Turkish lock manufacturer, but it is difficult to find information about them.

This is the way the lock came to me, pinned entirely with inverse spools:

The key sometimes needs light jiggling in order to work. A result of all-spool pinning perhaps?

Also I noticed that the top of the plug has been filed away. I've heard that locksmiths sometimes do this, what is the reason exactly?
If you do not manipulate the lock, then the lock will manipulate you

I have been playing with what is probably the crappiest lock I have ever seen for the last days. I am away from my box with picks/locks, so I decided to buy the cheapest cylinder I could find (~4€/$6 at the local hardware store) and give it a go to a street cleaner bristle I found.

I was very excited about trying the bristles, I had heard about using them but It was the first time I actually got my hands on one. Well: I set the cylinder up, I put the tension tool in, insert the rusty piece of metal and poof, open

Image

It was really disappointing, but it was fun playing around with it. Today I decided to disassemble it, and to my surprise the plug wasn't even solid! As soon as I tried to remove it, the driver pins fell and the springs... Well, here is an image:

Image

Both key and driver pins are exactly the same, springs are incredibly crappy and… Well, you can imagine what I got for the money. It's so easy it's not even fun to pick anymore.

Hopefully I'll get my new picks this week and I'll be able to start fiddling with dimple locks. It'll be fun!

P.S.: Be careful with those bristles, if you grab them too tightly you can cut yourself. It's not serious if you clean the cut, but it's not exactly pleasant.

Achyfellow- I can see why you were able to get that lock picked with a flat piece of street bristle! That is one crumby looking lock you got there! I look forward to seeing some of your dimple locks. Those are among my favorite family of locks. :)

I don't believe I have ever seen a plug that looks like that before. Where was that lock made? I have a guess in mind, but I don't want to say it out loud...

To be honest I have absolutely no idea where the cylinder is from. The hardware store I went to had truckloads of those in a shelf, all of them in a plastic wrapping with nothing else but the external measures and the content of the bag. Both cylinder and keys have no marks so I have no way to know what I'm working with.

Of course, I asked the guy who worked in the doors & locks section and he had no idea.
