How to remove lock?

Postby Ollie-B » 17 Sep 2013 4:26

Hi guys, it's been a couple of years since I've been here (no pc) and as I've forgotten my original user name and email address I've started afresh. Anyway, I've just built myself a workshop and was given a pair of doors with no key. Shouldn't be a problem as I've changed many locks before, but there is a problem :(

Take a look at the first image and all looks straightforward, now take a look at the second image. You will see 2 drilled holes in the white bit. In theory I should be able to remove the screws and slide the outside housing off complete with lock (after handle is removed).

The screws inside are set 2" within the frame and are not magnetic. Hence if I unscrew these screws they will be lost forever as the frame is sealed, not too much of a problem as I can replace the screws.

So what I'm looking for is an opinion on wether it is only these 2 screws holding the lock in place? or is it a bit more complicated than that?

(should've said, there's no lock access or handle on the inside, just a bump bar)

Think I've answered my own question

To the back of the door incorporated into the bump bar release was a hidden screw, well 2 actually. One of those released the lock mechanism, now it's just a case of getting another lock. :D

Welcome back and well done! We appreciate you coming back with a follow up, many internet forums suffer from users who ask a question, find a solution, but don't update their post.

+1 for the nice photos!

Enjoy the forum,
