Friend changed my Portable Safe combo, attempting to open

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Friend changed my Portable Safe combo, attempting to open

Postby dollparts » 1 Oct 2013 16:44

being a college student i'm used to a lot of pranks and messing around and it usually never bothers me past telling them to knock it off. unfortunately, this weekend i had a friend visit my apartment and i allowed them to use my portable safe to store a few valuables. now, i guess we were both slightly intoxicated and my friend thought it'd be amusing to watch me freak out when i couldnt open it the next morning and changed the combo. ha well he couldn't either!!! now he's shit out of luck, missing a gold necklace and $50 and that's not to mention my loss too! im so angry, i've spent the last two days trying to find anything of value to help me open up my safe but there seems to be little out there on masterlock's 5900D portable safe. their website tells me i cant reset the combo without the current combo. grrr. last time i share a combo with a pal for their benefit. shoulda just let his stuff sit out all night!! can somebody please help me?? i really need to access my things inside the safe, i have medication in there too. please help!

The lock only has 10,000 possible combinations. Sit down in front of the TV with a good movie and start eliminating combos. You may want to try common numbers like 1111 , 2222 ect , your birthday, 6969 . If that fails Start at 0000 and increase by 1 number until the lock opens. At 5 trys per minute that would take a maximum of 33 hours to test every combination. Increase the number of trys to 10 per minute and your max time goes 18.5 hours.
Hint: I am not familiar with the Master combo lock, but similar locks by other manufacturers have a spot on the wheels that feels “different”. Pay close attention when testing combos to see if you get a different feel.

Best of luck to you.

I second keysman's advice with one BIG difference. Start at 9999 and work backwards. 70% of the time it's faster every time  !
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!
