My heavy front door has not locked for a long time, the handle will not move upwards allowing it to lock. Recently I decided to have a tinker with it. I've fixed the hinge so it's more level and closes flush instead of slightly catching the frame, and I've fully removed, taken apart, inspected and restored the lock.
Now the lock WILL turn when removed and laid flat, and it can work momentarily when reinstalled into the door frame, but stops pretty quickly from what I assume is the force of the door closing. So I think something in the handle mechanism was broken, out of place or whatever but I cannot see specifically what it is when I take it apart or why it starts working again when laid flat.
So my only solution I can think of is to replace the mechanism entirely, which having done the removing and taking apart part doesn't seem too hard a job, but I do not know what brand the current lock is so I don't know what to look for as a replacement.
I've included photos of the mechanism to see if anyone knows what I can get, I can probably find it on eBay as Wickes/B&Q don't appear to carry them separately.
Thanks for reading.
