Custom pick set

Postby Woodkid » 1 Nov 2013 17:27

Hello, I am planning on buying my first custom lock pick set from http://www.lockpickshop.com
Here is the list of picks:
-standart hook
-midium hook
-hooked diamond
-half diamond
-worm
-bogota

I found out that picks are frigile and could be broken while practicing. I would like to know which pick should I double when ordering.

Thanks.

Hi Woodkid,

You might bend a few starting out (and they're usually still usable, just a little less pretty) - but you shouldn't break them outright. If you'd like to double up to be safe, half diamonds and medium hooks are the most versatile picks and spares are always nice to have.

I agree. I like to play with other picks from time to time, but small/medium diamonds and a standard pick is all I use normally. Consider adding a rake too if you use it frequently.

Picks are not fragile, champagne glasses are fragile.

The trouble is most new pickers treat lock pick tools like they would treat car mechanics tools. A lock pick is not the same as a screwdriver or box wrench.

Treat your lock picks as an artist would treat his paint brush.

Thanks for your feedback. I scaned forum and found some pick durability infos. It seems that shouldn't break easily (if used correctly)

What about tension tools?
I would get a standard and a thin ( for top of keyway) and spares.
