Locks Keyed Alike (single key multiple locks)

Has anyone here ever heard of Locks that are keyed alike, but have the security pins in different positions (ie: pin1 in one lock pin2 in the next, etc)?

I can't imagine that this would ever be the case, I assume it's a difference of binding pins due manufacturing tolerances, but I thought it was a good question.

I don't see why not - the keys would work regardless. Matching locks are likely pinned identically when purchased, but locks that are maintained / replaced over time would likely accumulate slightly different pin materials and types.

Aslong as the key goes in and sets them in the correct positions it doesn't matter if security pins are in a dif spot.

A decently made lock will have the security pins in random locations. The locations of the security pins should have no bearing on the key bitting. Good question!

I don't know why I assumed that "Keyed Alike" meant they'd SPP alike. All 4 of these Brinks locks pick differently, and a few of them act like they have the security pins in different positions. The suspected security pins all exhibit counter rotation. Thanks for the answers, maybe I'll cut these locks open when I get more in my collection of pickables
