Three wheel Combination Lock

Postby Erdnaseuk » 13 Nov 2013 11:39

Hey all

Ive been lurking for a while - havent really had much to contribute so I have been staying quiet.
I have three, three wheel combination locks - I can crack them all but I have troule with one of them. I cant find much information online about these locks apart from the basic cracking tutriol.
Am I able to ask my questions here? or shall I wait until I have access to the advanced forum. ( I know the code and can PM it or show a picture of the lock opened and closed to prove its mine if needed :D )

PS. On a side note - never accquire a TSA002 lock (has a combo wheel and a keyway). I picked the wafer by mistake when seeing how much movement the longest pin had.
This padlock shackle was in the 90degree change combination position when I got it with the keyway locked. After unlocking the keyway I was able to move the shackle to the normal position - and this took on the new code. I was hoping to sit down for a while with this lock - took less than 1minute to sort out hahaha!

Just post the photo of what you're talking about, is this a combination padlock? a cabinet lock? a safe lock? Once we know more we can decide how detailed we can get into helping you or if you would have to wait for Advanced.

to share your photo upload it to http://imgur.com/ or to http://tinypic.com/ and Copy/Paste the URL link in your reply.

Thanks

FYI - TSA002 is not a specific type of lock. It is the key that TSA can use to open the lock.

Also, the key-only TSA locks, for example, TSA007 key can have a half dozen keys that will 'only' work in that lock, and those keys are different from the actual key used by TSA. I have a key that has opened every TSA007 lock I have tried it on (over twenty so far), though have to use it as a jiggler on some locks.

These are not secure locks. Period. But they are the only locks you can use to secure your checked baggage for airlines in the United States. (Unless you are checking baggage with a firearm, but that is another subject.) Don't know about other countries, others will have to contribute that information.

Thansk for the replies - I will dig the lock out tomorrow and post a picture. But to let you all know it is one of these styles

But CHEAP!

@ Gordan
I thought it may have been something like that from my limited knowledge about TSA - I mean why else have a "normal" function shackle one side for the combo wheels and a key that retracts the shackle locking on the other.

These locks work on a mechanism like a gear-in-gear. The outer gear-the number wheel. Has a toothed inner. Usually 8 gear notches. To match the corresponding outer of the inner gear which has the gate for the locking mechanism which is usually just a protrusion from the shackle. a 3 wheel combination has 3 notches. Which when the gates are aligned allow the shackle to pop open. The locks are 'riveted' if your curious sacrifice 1 and drill the rivets and see the mechanism.

After looking at the pictures, I believe ,if memory serves me right ,
these combo locks were sold under the brand name of "Presto" .
