Samsun Ezon door locks security concern ...

Postby marginal » 29 Nov 2013 13:46

Hello people.

Has anyone had experience with the Samsung Ezon door locks?
Are they "pick" proof?

Regards.

@marginal:
Since this is a keyless lock, it can be considered pick proof 8)

But it doesn't mean it is secure (I'm not saying it isn't, I'm just objectively answering your question, as I'm not familiar with this lock). If someone shoulder surfs you inserting the code they can get in.
I believe you can also use a card to unlock the door. Probably RFID, so it can be cracked.

Does it stand a furcefull entry?

These are the questions that need answer to see if it's a secure lock or not. Not much more than that can be said on the open foruns...

I personally prefer a good mechanical lock than an electronic. If there's a flaw on the electronic, it makes the lock inifinitely more vulnerable than a mechanical one, because you practically need no skill to do it. But that's my preference!
Go ahead, keep plugging away, picking on me! You will end up on bypass or with rigor mortise.

Philosophically, no lock is 'pickproof' - some are just harder to pick than others. The original developers of combination locks considered them 'pickproof' because there was no keyhole but ... . Onity thought their hotel locks were 'pickproof' until advances in electronics enabled anyone with a bit of electronics knowledge to build a small easily concealable over-ride device.

Hello and thank you for the replies.

I am using only the RFID Cards.
Used the master code only during the programming of the lock and cards.
The cards / tag keys are always with me, so they're impossible to be copied or read.
My only question was about the electronic safety of the lock.
Mechanically I am not really concerned.
Here's the link to the manufacturer's products: http://www.samsungdigitallife.com/DigitalDoorLock.php

We'll see :-).

I don't believe this is a real threat. But it is possible to copy and/or read them. They are proximity cards. So someone who gets really close to the card, like bumping into you like pickpocketers do, they could get the info on the tag in a fraction of a second.

As I said, this would required an ingenious guy that is able to make a reader that happens to be able to interpret the information on the card and at the same time knowing where exactly in your body you have the card while approaching you with a reader/copier without you realising what's going on!

About the electronic security. Usually these locks don't have flaws where you can get by a combo of keys typed or something. That would pop up on the tests. I don't see it as a real threat...

They already exist. They use them to read smart credit cards with RFID technology. Keep them in a metal wallet for security.

Yes, you could make one at home  But my point was that it's not a real threat in terms of odds.
Does the metal wallet thing really work? I'm not joking, I really don't know!

I understand what you are saying, but could anyone please show me a RFID 13.56MHz Card Reader?

Thanks.

Here's mine:

So, this topic is getting too much detailed to be on the open foruns. I'm not going to risk it getting moved to advanced so I can't detail you more than this, unless you want to continue by PM.

I'm just telling you. If you take the necessary precautions, there is little to worry about this. It's not easy to come accross someone who has gathered all the necessary stuff to preform an attack like this. Someone who knows where you live, where you keep your card, is able to get close enough to copy it (about half a feet, PROBABLY LESS!) and has a reader ready for it. The thing is not the reader itelf. It's the programing so it can extract all the details needed. That's a little more tricky.

It's more likely someone just snatches you the card, as they would with a key. So I believe you're good

Thank you fgarci03.

Two last questions for you.
1. How long does the reading take?
2. If I reprogram the cards / tag key, will their stuff still work (I don't think so :-) )?

Regards.
