Dutch Lock Safari <pic heavy lock porn :) >

Postby ARF-GEF » 30 Nov 2013 17:54

Hi fellow lock appreciators,

I had the luck of spending a few days in the Netherlands and I tried to snap a few pics of locks I saw.
There were a lot of interesting good locks around there, I was impressed by the Dutch :D

It will be more on the lock porn side, not much explanation just pics.
I hope you enjoy.

Image
A nice Ruko2 padlock on one of the numerous bridges (I hguess it's the control panel)

Image
An interesting DOM with that definding plate (it's everywhere there) with their local SKG cerification (3 starts, teh highes in this case)
I heard the SKG certification is well thought out and serious, and can be depended on (like VDS), correct me if I'm wrong.

Image
A middle class lock, a Mauer Elite2, 6 pins, not too hard.

Image
A BAB lock, I don't know this type, as always feel free to correct me and fill out the holes :)
Especially in these cases where I don't know much at all from a lock :D

Image
A cool old chest :)

Image
The city keys Amsterdam gave to Napoleon, gold plated silver.

Image
3 locks on the same door, the Dutc hare generally very well defended wtih locks, several locks are not uncommon. We see a Zeiss ikon on the left, then CIsa, standrd stuff, but then a strange unique Zeiss ikon lock, very common there but I haven't seen elsewhere before. Could someone provide some detaisl about that one? The one with the oval plate and round hole?
More on these topics later :)

Image
A closeup of one of the Ziess Ikons from the previous picture.

Image
A close-up of the other Zeiss Ikons. Again if you know sth about this lock please speak up and post, caus it looks very unique to me :)
I presume it's a cruciform lock (thanks for the name Mech :D )

Image
A nice little ASSA :)

Image
One of the highlights: a cool VIDEX lock :D

Image
A medeco Biaxial on a little lift at a museum.
Couldn't get a close-up the guard was already eyeing me funnily.

Image
A fun, french looking pump lock, unkown, please ID if you can :)

Image
Hahaha this shop had 7 locks on tha weak little door. 7 locks is an overkill even in my eyes :D And I don't say that often :D
What is the thingy on the top corner I marked wit ha question mark? It looked like the little control panel for the sliding grid, but there was no grid...

Image
Nice profile haha :D probably Ankerslot , but could be Gege, wiknhaus or Zeiss Ikon as well.

Image
Another mean profile, can't read the name but kas 2 SKG stars.

Image
Another gem, never seen Ikon/Abloy Verso Cliq-s on apartments before
Love it! Should get one myself.

Image
Gege ANS-2

Image
A net and secure idea: rolling spikes on a few tubes, more secure than barbed wire and much better looking as well.

Image
And ankerslot Inline I think. About ankerslot: the last lockmaker who actually makes lock in the Netherlands, nice high qualtiy stuff. This one is also knwon as MIWA, also made by the Japanese.
Ankerslot also cooperated with Gera in the past, they have the same locks branded differently with a few models.

Image
A Lovely 3SKG star version of Evva 3ks, a beauty, my heart is melting lol :D

Image
Another 3ks, sorry I love them  , and a local Ankerslot.

Image
An interesting Zeis ikon. Not sure what model exactly, but that cross like profile looks promising.

Image
What you see here is another interesting lock. It's basically a Keso (not sargent keso, the one our American friends have, but the original, (Swiss) one :) )
Lips also makes them, they are essentially the same lock with a different name.
This one is the Keso/LIPS 2000 omega, where Omega indicates an interactive pin in the key.
A good, secure lock.

Image
This one here is a close sister, and a good opportunity to show what's the difference between the 2000 omega and the 2000S omega.
The S has a burred shoulder which can be left at the middle at the left or at the right. So you can have with the exact same keying 2 different locks and keys not fitting to the other lock. Like in the Gege ANS-2
That is what S stands for :)

I hope you enjoyed my little lock safari slideshow, corrections, suggessions and addtions are most welcome :)

Now that was a lock safari!

The Dutch have really cool locks indeed!

Where are the keys to the city being displayed?
Go ahead, keep plugging away, picking on me! You will end up on bypass or with rigor mortise.

That picture can go straight in the schoolbooks as the bad example

The box is definately for a sliding grid, the company name is euroll. The dots left and right of the lock are arrows respectively pointing up and down. I would think they're from a previous owner that had a grid.

FG: They are in the "Amsterdam Museum" I think :)
Those must be the priciest keys I've seen so far :D

That picture can go straight in the schoolbooks as the bad example

Indeed, the locks are totally pointless for such door. The intention was probably good, but that is a waste of money IMO.
A very bad example indeed

Thanks for the confirmation on the sliding grid.

Some really cool locks in this safari, ARF-GEF! Definite lock porn.

Is it just me, or we're many of those euro-profile locks, including one of the 3KS locks, too large for the door? Sticking out a lot, at risk of snapping.

I'm happy you liked them :)
I was very excited when I spotted some of those :D

That is a valid point Gordon, one unidentified lock ("Another mean profile, can't read the name but kas 2 SKG stars.") is probably a bit too far off.
As for the 3ks, yes it is a bit more out that it would be ideal, but the sizing grows in 5mm so one smaller would have probably been too small. Official recommendation is that it does not stick out any more than 2, tops 3 mm.
As for the 3KS and Kaba and several similar high end locks have a hardened steel bridge going though all the way the whole lock, whick makes breaking it very hard. That is another pro for my beloved modular constructions :)

Update: Special thanks for the great research work of Phrygianradar, who spotted this lock which might be fitting to the oval unknown locks so common in the Netherlands.
The one you see at the link is an Euro profile, but that is only a question of formats.

This would be it. I think we have a winner. Eagle eyes Phrygian, thank you! :)

On his hot trail I checked the site in question and when I browsed it I think I Identified another mysterious Zeiss-Ikon locks:

for the French pump lock ... it is a Vigie Picard either 6 sliders or 8 ... to know the number of sliders you have to look inside the lock. I cannot tell you the exact model cause the pic is a little bit blurry

Superb lock safari! Learned of some new manufacturers today, they will be put on the list to be eventually added into my collection, and then picked (hopefully)... I wasn't really lock-conscious during my only visit to the Netherlands in 2007 so this safari makes up for that quite nicely :) I knew those locks with the oval flaps/covers had to be cross locks from the keyway shape, but this is the first time I've ever seen a cross lock in a Euro profile configuration. (thanks to phyrgianradar for showing us all)

The Dutch seem particularly worried about experienced lockpickers it seems; most of those keyway profiles are nightmarish, and those are some quality locks. Better safe than sorry
If you do not manipulate the lock, then the lock will manipulate you
