I think that it is awesome that you are doing that yourself! I am working on a Master Lock box like the ones real-estate agents use with the 4 dials on it. There was one on the water pipe when I woke up one day and has been in the garage for a while.

Anyhow if you haven't seen this Michael Huebler wrote up a paper on the Speed Dial and toool.nl has a software visualization of the inside workings. I hope that linking the pdf is alright here for you.
