What did you pick today?

Picked two deadbolt locks this morning. The one on the left is a Segal and the one on the right is a Kwikset. Not very difficult but fun

The thing is so beaten and abused that you can turn the plug several degrees with the tension tool (It even comes out a bit). The internals must be totally screwed too, it does really weird things even if you are actually using the key. I had to use the cheap picks from dealextreme since those are very wide and don't bend easily.

A very good way I found to stop corrosion is getting some "Du Pont teflon non-stick" and some "Graphite lubricant" (From the local hardware store) to make it feel better. Other then that I just chuck the lock from my collection.

I used a new Lishi pick to pick open a Mercedes-Benz today. It was actually really hard even with the Lishi pick. Anyone who's used one of those pics will know what I'm talking about and Mercedes makes a tough lock to crack. My boss has a rental car so he said "have at it". That sort of opportunity doesn't come about very often… for me at least. I know there are some of you who open those sorts of cars all the time. I am only a hobbyist with a license!

I actually got it from a thrift store for 50 cents, I wouldn't let anything I own end like that ;)

Well technically it works. I just wanted something hard to pick (And things that are genuinely designed to be hard to pick are very expensive )

Got another lock in the bag, asked my sister for a lock to pick and got this old combination lock with a key in the back. 4 pin with 1 spool very last pin.

Took 40 minutes to get it, then did it again in less than 5minutes.

DOM cam lock (eBay special) with very tiny pins. It has a sidebar but can't be disassembled non-destructively - picked like a normal dimple with security pins though.

I got one of those, too. The cam locking lugs on the back are pretty heavy-duty. Nice picking.
