I don't have the lock to try it obviously, but I think you could also use a sheet of plastic. Insert, see if it marks, and use a hole punch for leather to make the holes.

I figure a firm wire (my favorite - music wire) rectangle the width of the keyway, and an inch or two wider deeper than the keyway, should work to press the latch on the back of the keyway without needing to drill holes in plastic.

This idea may have no validity at all, as do not have one of these locks.

Cool padlock! It does look like some of the mechanical hotel locks out there.

As pointed out above, they can be impressioned by seeing where the pins are wanting to go.

There has been quite a lot of work done on the hotel lock versions, using plasticene to show the marks (and other materials). It is an interesting concept.
