Hey all,
I have a question abou ta combo lock but im not sure whether to post it on the open forum or whether it should be kept until i can post it on the advanced lock forum, but i have recently came accross a closet, well it's actually a metal cupboard, kinda, and on the front has a combo lock, says something about "Marl IV" as in mark 4, but not sure how to open it, i am aware that it's a LOCK PICKING forum, and not combo opening, so i am asking if i can post it, not just assume i can,
thanks all,
Dan
P.S. If i am allowed, i will post a pic of it!!!
I have made mistakes, but never made the mistake of claiming i never made one!

Go ahead and throw it out. If it's supposed to be in the advanced, there will be people who will take care of it.

OK then, in that case, recently, a metal cabinet, larger than a gun case, smaller than a wardrobe, i will post pic later, and the part i am interested in is the combination lock itself.
It is a decent sized combination dial black lock, and on it, it says ;"Mark IV manofoil", i was just wondering if youor anyone else could post any ideas of how i could get back the combination again, thanks all,
Dan

You say you want the combination, not to open it. Does that mean it's open? If so, you can take the back cover off the lock and find the combo fairly easily by looking at the wheels.
If it's not open, then things get more difficult. There's a article at howstuffworks.com on safecracking that may be helpful, or at least point you in the right general direction. Yeager's book Techniques of Safecracking is another possible source, though it gets mixed reviews. If you need it open anytime soon, you're probably going to need to get an expert to help. To shamelessly steal a joke I read on here, if they were easy to open then they'd be called 'unsafes'.
