Starter locks to pick

Postby Drew26-NE[UK] » 17 Jan 2014 11:17

Hi all, relitavely new to lock picking and this forum .
I was wondering what 5 or 10 locks people would most recomend a newbie to start with.
Based in Newcastle UK so if any one has a set to sell even would be great .
Apologies if this post comes across a bit lame , its my first .
Many thanks

I'm not that sure about what locks are available in the UK.....someone from their will probably have a better answer. I would recommend a couple cheap made in china standard 4 pin and tumbler padlocks. The cheaper they are the better. The other lock I would recommend is a Master lock number 3. The number 3 is a great starter lock because the key way is maneuverable and it is very low security. Also you might want to try using the search function to find some answers.

Alternatively if the forum search does not yield results you can try a Google search by typing "site:www.lockpicking101.com search sujbect" into the search bar. Remove the quotations and replace search subject with what your searching for. Good luck!

I think the most useful thing would be to go the store and get the most common padlocks of the type of lock you want to pick you see in practice. Those are most likely easy to pick, cheap, and relevant for learning.

Many locks from the same manufacturing have the same cylinder, so there is little difference in picking them, such as the Master Lock #3 versus #1 or #5. It is the same lock cylinder in a different sized body with a different shackle.
