Picking a Master Solid Body Padlock

First post I'm sorry if I miss any special rules or anything....


I've got this Master solid body padlock from the Magnum line. The model is M930XDLHHC. Here's a link for more information about it:

I've been working on this lock for some time now, and just yesterday I was able to pick it and turn the plug about 170 degrees. The lock however did not open. In some cases, when picked, the plug only turns 45 degrees then stops. I'm then able to pick another pin and have it turn to the full 170 degrees.

I read that this lock also supports re-pinning so perhaps it has something to do with that. But I'd really love to open this lock. Anyone have any advice/suggestions?

I don't think that the re-keyable cylinder is causing the problem. It is possible that the lock is open and you just need to apply more torque to pop the shackle. I have a master padlock M530 that can't be opened with the tension wrench. After you think you have picked it all the way, use the proper size screw driver to try and turn the plug (don't force it). If it is open you will feel it give. If it still doesn't open that means you have a false set, likely a spool pin. Check each pin and look for counter rotation in the plug. The pin that counter rotates is a spool. Ease off the tension just a little bit to set that pin.

I wouldn't have thought at the plug would spin almost 180 degrees if it were a false set. I've also tried using a screwdriver to turn the plug to ge tit to open but nothing happened.

I'm started to wonder if i'm turning the plug the wrong way.

It's possible you picked it in the wrong direction. I was assuming you had the key. There's a video of someone picking this lock where you can see the correct way to apply tension. I think you may have already found it judging from the last comment on the video. Are you applying tension in the same direction as the video? Never hurts to try the other way. Some locks pick easier in the other direction however, you will need to make a plug spinner.

I'm not too familiar with this lock but another thought I had was that it could have a dead core. After picking it, try pulling on the shackle. If there is no spring it wont pop open itself.

That lock is only rekeyable by disassembling the lock.

Some of those locks do not have a spring loaded shackle - have you tried pulling on the shackle while turning the plug?
