Master System Resource

Greetings,

I am a Building Engineer/Manager and beginning to learn about locksmithing for the purposes of maintaining our facility (approximately 130 cylinders).

I am reverse engineering our master keying system and realize I do not know enough. Can anyone recommend a good book/training material (I don't mind paying) on how master key systems are setup/implemented including sub masters?

Thanks!

Kokomolock put up a video about master keying on his youtube channel. This should explain the basics to masterkeying. It will give you a grasp on understanding how it is implemented. You will probably still need to look into more material though.

mpotoka:

I am knowledgeable in the art/science of masterkeying...

It would help to know a few things:
What manufacturer are the locks ?
What is the facility used for ?

Reverse Engineering a keying system is not something for a novice, you really do need to have an understanding of how keying systems are developed in order to be able to work backwards and document a keying system, especially if examples of every key are not available for examination...

If you are considering "sub-masters" in a facility with only 130 cylinders it sounds to me like you are attempting to key the building to the people in charge of it at the moment rather than according to the building's function and layout, or have territorial issues where people who would be issued a master key for whatever reason shouldn't be allowed to open certain spaces...

Please PM on this site or send me an e-mail with your specific questions and I will answer them...
