Looking for info on master keyed commercial systems.

Want to learn how master keyed systems work? not sure what a Grand Master or a change key are? Want to share a new MK system you came up with? How do different manufacturers pin up their locks? It's 10pm, do you know where your wafers are?

Looking for info on master keyed commercial systems.

Postby Nrhlmck » 19 Mar 2012 20:12

Hey everyone, I'm wanting to locate some information on the design, layout, safety issues, standards of designing, installing or maintaining a master keyed commercial lock system.

I'm wanting to have this as a reference if I ever run into master keyed systems or have the opportunity to install/re-pin a master keyed system of locks. Ive done some research and found some good info. I also know a lot of this info will be dependent on the lock manufacturer.

So I'm basically trying to find a good reference on how master keyed lock systems are laid out and designed. I would like to know about who should have access to the masters/grand masters, emergency exits in HS areas, different types of master key systems and which are better suited to specific applications/needs.

There is a slew of information out there on locks and I only ask because I figure some of you may have a reference that you know to be a good one.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

@2octops:

I am not impressed by any of Don O'Shall's master keying text books...

Masterkeying by the numbers by Billy B Edawrds is a great reference, so is Fundamentals of Masterkeying by Jerome V Andrews...

Dollar for dollar the above two industry standard books are worth much more than anything O'Shall has written on the subject...

I've been having a hard time finding either of these books--any other recommendations?

Does anyone have another place to locate this? Still unavailable and I can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks.

I also received an Excel master key generator from a member of another forum. It's very helpful and covers Master and sub-Masters, you just have to check for MACS errors.
