Pick suggestions?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Pick suggestions?

Postby marosell » 3 Feb 2014 22:24

So I have a set of Bogota Titans. I'm looking for:

Deforest Diamond
Medium Hook
Other suggestions?

Wanted to buy individuals, but from the same set. Or so that in the future, I can get others from the same set. Looking for opinions on picks from Peterson, Lockpickshop, Southord, etc. A lot of them don't have the deforest, and some of them have a short hook and a long hook, but no medium?

Best quality for the price? Best set to grow with?

Many manufacturers have different names for the same picks. An offset diamond is the same as a deforest.

My favorite offset diamond is the HPC SSP-30 but I don't particularly like the hook in that set. My favorite hook is the Peterson Hook1 but I don't really love their offset diamond. You may find that one manufacturer doesn't make every pick exactly to your liking so I wouldn't get too hung up on having a complete set from just one manufacturer.

Also, I don't find the offset diamond to be super useful most of the time. I would think about getting a Peterson Hook1 and a Gem. That's a short hook and a tweaked medium hook. Those are my go to picks and will cover you pretty well.

Southord does have some individual DeForest diamonds if you look on their site. I don't own those particular ones, but I've generally been happy with my other Southord tools. Unfortunately I don't have much advice for a premade set. As I've gotten (relatively) more experienced in the past couple months, the more I find myself disappointed with the pick choices, even if the individual tools are good quality.
