I picked my Keso 2000 padlock today. I was just messing about with it, hadn't really ever tried real hard to pick it and I got it open in about 15 minutes or so:

This was a fun pick and I actually used that "Z" shaped tension wrench on it! This is the first dimpled lock I have picked using that tension wrench - Kodak moment!

Nice work! I have a Keso that I play with once in a while but never get anywhere with.

Well, if you ever do get it picked, don't turn it 90°! As you can see in the picture mine went 90° and now it's stuck in the open position. I didn't do it on purpose, when I pulled the shackle open it actually forced the cam to turn all the way and it slipped into the 90° position. Or I just accidentally pushed it all the way... so now I need to try to pick it back closed… We'll see how that goes. Just a word of warning!

I picked it so late last night that I didn't want to mess with trying to fix it then. I know that the cylinder can come out so perhaps I can pull it out and shim it or at least part of it. The driver pins that were on the left-hand side are now coming through the bottom of the keyway so I have to hold those down and pick the other sides. I have always been careful with all the other dimpled locks that I picked not to let this happen, but I think the ball bearings pushed the cam when I pulled the shackle open... Either way it kind of sucks!

Every time I come in here, I get jealous of the locks you cats have. Makes me almost embarrassed that I'm sitting here picking away at a couple 5 pin 4 spool Schlages. Lots of false sets; but, I eventually get through. Happy picking.

Teranaut try get a lock with a interchangeable core(ic) this means you can re pin it so you can have 1 standard and 1 spool/ serrated pin so you can get a better feel for iy. I have a lockwood 234/35 which has ic. Good luck with it!

I have thought about getting an interchangeable core lock to play with; but, never made the plunge. Changing out pin stacks just doesn't seem that big of a chore when I'm picking for entertainment. Plus, I have a deep seated need to take stuff apart. I do need to get some serrated pins though and put 'em in at least one of my locks. I have a few cores that are pinned with 1, 2, 3, and 4 spools; each with its own bag of tricks. Even the ones that are keyed alike pick differently; which is nice.

Master-lock Pro Series 6835. I'd love to pick a dimple lock though.

KPick do you use dimple flags? I can't seem to get used to it so I use a diamond pick. Good job!

phrygianradar I see that you are using the Southord dimple picks. How do they perform? I have seen mixed reviews about them. Some people say they are great and others would rather use a normal diamond. Whats your take on them? :D

Thanks Onz. I haven't even got the chance to pick a dimple lock yet. I want to, since they're dirt cheap, but with school work and bills I haven't got the chance to even get one. Great Idea though. How do you fair with a diamond pick? Is it better?

I like the flags for certain dimple locks. You do have to get used to them, but they are way easier for me feel what is going on in some of the good dimple locks (i.e. not the "dirt cheap" dimple locks). But still, like all the tools we use, it is something that is total preference. I got a set when I started picking MTL Interactive's and I think they help with the outer part of the pin. But I have picked a Kaba Gemini with a diamond, so hard to say. I like them. Having said all that, I think most of how they perform has to do with who is using them and how much practice using them the individual has. They are quality, and I like them better than other SO picks. I prefer Peterson picks, but they don't have any flags for dimples so…

Just as a side note: this lock (Keso 2000S) has 15 pins in it. I had to shim it to get the core out(normal shims wouldn't work, so I used the old DVD rfid metal and that worked) and use a set of calipers to match the pins with their drivers. If you ever pick one, don't let it slip into one of the other bibles! Just don't… If you take apart one of these for fun, write down or keep them organized in some way exactly where each driver comes from; it is easy to get them mixed up. This is a Swiss made lock and there is absolutely no room for error. If you have a driver in the wrong place, either your key will not go into the lock, or won't come out of the lock, depending on where it was when you put it back together incorrectly; that is how tight the bibles are! I had one driver out of place and my key would only come out half way… Out come the calipers! I started to wonder why they would make a lock like this and then it dawned on me: If you have the incorrect key, it may not even go into the lock!

And thank you fgarci; reading your kind words made the suffering I endured putting the lock back together worth it!

Cheers all!

Ohh you were referring to the previous post about the dimple lock, I thought you picked a dimple lock.

I use one very much like the one on the left. Personally I found a the width is a bit bigger than a diamond so I can move around better with the diamond. If that makes any sense.

I should've put a note, that out of those SO dimple lockpicks, I really only use one of them consistently. I don't really like the ones that curve like the ones in your picture either.

Yea, I wish they sold the dimple picks individually :( Most people have said that they only use 1 or 2 of them and the rest hardly get used.
