MIWA Wafer Cylinder

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

MIWA Wafer Cylinder

Postby Raymond » 6 Feb 2014 21:29

I was looking for key blanks for this non-magnetic MIWA cylinder and decided to put some photos here.

It was pretty easy to pick. The plug comes out the back of the lock after removing a snap ring. Each wafer must be picked to clear the back of the case. There are ten wafers that can be moved around to change the combo.

Very nice lock Ray, never saw one of those before!
Serrated wafers give me a total headache, much more than serrated pins... But I do have only tried them on one lock, so I'm not sure if they're all difficult.

Thanks for sharing
Go ahead, keep plugging away, picking on me! You will end up on bypass or with rigor mortise.

Very nice! Thank you for the pictures. Did not expect it to be a wafer lock.

There are blanks like that in the ILCO catalog, if I remember correctly.

The keys look a bit like the old schlage "binary locks" whatever they are called on the SC22 keyway.

Nevertheless, those locks are very popular in Asia (Primarily Japan and Taiwan). They are often spotted on plate glass doors and the like, not super high security, however.

Makes me wonder if that stack of key blanks I have are for this lock. They do look similar to the schlage A series wafer key blanks, but are slightly wider and would never go into the schlage wafer lock. I have been using them for old warded padlocks
If you still care Raymond PM me your address & I will mail you one.
