At least you're not starting like I did. I started with a master 140... then I learned what security pins are.

I bought a "high security" Master Lock at wallyworld that said it was a 9 out of 10 for security(don't remember the number model). Had it picked in 15 seconds.I can only assume that their number 9 meant the shackle was more hardener, because picking it was VERY easy. Or if not, then their number 2 or 3 in the security line would just fall open by looking at it in a mean way.

Falling open by looking at it in a mean way is actually a '5' on their scale.
1 = Will not lock at all 2 = Sometimes will latch 3 = Stiff breeze will unlock 4 = Looking at lock will unlock it 5 = Mean looks will open 6 = Moderate pull by hand will open 7 = Showing your pick kit will open 8 = Insertion of pick needed to open 9 = Actual movement of pins needed to open 10 = Undefined - no Master Locks qualify at this time.

hahahaha! Now this is what it really should say on the back side of the package, the truth. They know if they printed the truth they would be out of business tomorrow so they stick with generalized misinformation like "4 pins for picking resistance".

I don't think they would be out of business. How much of the general public really knows anything about locks or even reads packaging?

LOL Gordon GrzyWhop33: actually I have never ever seen a padlock picked open as part of a crime. I even only heard about it a few times. A mojority of those were safes. The kind of people who nick unattended bikes rarely pick, so the phisically resistant master locks, the ones with security pins are not too bad cheap solutions. All right now I have to hide in the mountains after writing that

Unless you live somewhere remote like Oak Island in Canada, your local big box store is a better bet. and yes, those 4 pins are better than.. i donno, tying your shed with rope or a zip tie. it's really crafty marketing by the goons at Master Lock to make people think 4 pins is secure.. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Master-Lock- ... /100177124
Hey, idk if you are still following this post, but the link that you provided me with is showing a Master lock 1-9/16. Is this a type of No. 3? or is this a lock equally easy to the No. 3? I am asking this because there are no No. 3's (at least with my online search) in my specific Home Depot, and wondering if i should order online or just pick it up at the store. Thanks Mike

ARF-GEF, not really sure what you are referring to in my post? I was just saying that I started with a master 140, it's not a big strong lock, could probably break by yelling at it. Just, since it was small, I thought it would be easy, then I learned there were security pins. Not sure how that relates to theft. DISREGARD... I FORGOT I DID POST AGAIN...INSERT FOOT IN MOUTH...I'M AN IDIOT.

I learned with the N°1 then picked the N°3 I would recommend either of them to a beginner

They both use the same lock core.
