Hey, My friend decided to give me his old (got in 2010) lock in two weeks. because he is upgrading to Schlage That = a new practice lock for me . It is a Toledo Fine Deadbolt Lock. I was wondering if it is easy to pick, or it has some security pins or just hard to pick for whatever reason. I searched this name up on the forum, and barely got any results. I was wondering if someone, has heard of one of them, or even picked one of them. This is the link to what exactly im going to get: http://toledofinelocks.com/productdetail.cfm?product=3&family=36# . Please tell me what you guys think, i am a beginner awaiting his Master Lock No. 3 by mail (meaning i've only picked one type of lock so far). Thanks in advance for replies Mike this forum is amazing

Interesting. My first thought was Toledo, Spain which is the sister city of Toledo, Ohio, home of my alma mater University of Toledo.

Looks like a yale type keyway, so it should be more challenging than say , a kwikset type. Also has an anti bump pin. Looks decent. You might need thin picks, such as euros to get up in that paracentric top of the keyway, or tip your picks a little to the side and slide into the curve to lift the pins. looks like it would be better than many others for practice, and you will probably figure out how to swap the pins around to change the bitting and keep it more challenging for longer, and hey, it is free which is always a plus. Good luck.

Thanks. Have you ever heard of Toledo?I have a few questions . What is a yale keyway, and what are the characteristics of it? Also, what does paracentric mean? Lastly, would this keyway be easy to pick for you?

I have never heard of or seen a "Toledo" brand before , so I know nothing about them other than what I could see and gather from the page with pictures you linked to. Yale is a brand of lock and also a style of key blanks. Some of them are paracentric, meaning that from the tip , the top of the blade of the key looks like this ) or this ( in other words curved instead of this I , straight. Under that part which touches the pins there are different wards or protrusions for the different types of keyways and blanks , these fit in the grooves along the side of the key. I would say that the heights or depths of the pinsets or key bittings would be what would make this lock easy or harder to pick for me or anyone else for that matter.
