Lock cylinder snapped and removed, but door still locked

Postby Midlandboy1 » 16 Feb 2014 7:23

Hi, I've just had an attempted break in. They snapped and removed the cylinder in my UPVC front door. But...the door is still locked (or jammed) They didn't get in fortunately, but I now cannot open my own front door, even though there is no lock in it!

Is there some security feature which means this kind of door remains locked if the cylinder is removed? If so, how do I open my door? If not, what is keeping the door locked, and how do I open it? (I can access it from the inside).

Thankyou

call a lockie, this is not something we can teach you in 5 minutes. Did they snap and remove entire lock? can you see inside your house looking into the hole or do you see broken metal and some other bits?

Also, this being the internet and all, we can't be sure if you're the guy snapping or the guy who had his lock snapped.. so it is probably not wise to offer you step by step instructions in opening that door, I hope you can appreciate our cautious stance.
