How many aftermarket keyblank manufacturers are there?

Postby somenewguy » 26 Feb 2014 21:48

I am wondering what all the aftermarket key blank manufacturers are. The only ones I can think of are

Ilco
Hy-Ko
Axxess/Hilman

Are there others?

When I Googled it, I found also "JMA-USA/Altuna" but I had never heard of them before.

Tons of them.

Cole, Taylor, Curtis, Dominion, Jet, ESP, Silca, Orion, National, Star, Yale. Lauren makes some darn fine keys, too!

Cole, Taylor, Curtis, Star, Dominion are all long gone...either absorbed into other companies or just out of business.
ESP and Silca are still around. Orion is part of Ilco.
National and Yale are OEM so I would not count them.

Ilco, Jet, Hy-Ko, Hillman are the 4 major names in blanks, with Ilco and Jet having the largest selection by far.

In the US we mainly use Silca or Ilco blanks. We also use Jet, Jma. Big box stores use Hillman or Hy-Ko.

And you can not forget the ultra-high-quality (chuckle, chuckle) Axcess blanks used by Lowe's or Home Depot.

The blanks aren't the issue, they are made by Hillman. Crappy machines and poorly trained employees are the problem.

Have to agree about the quality of the machines and the training of the employees.

By any chance, do you (or anybody here) have a cross-reference chart from Axcess to ILCO, Silca, or whatever?
