Identify GM keys

Postby dixondoy80 » 13 Feb 2014 20:01

I work at a gm dealer parts department and I have a box of gm keys with no part numbers. A few look the same with minor differences. Is there a chart somewhere I don't know about.
Thanks
PS sorry about not reading first about advanced section.

Sounds like you are referring to key blanks. There are key blank catalogs, but they will not likely give you a cross reference to your GM part numbers.

Thank you I was afraid of that. Our catalogs are just crapy drawings. If anyone needs a gm part number for a key or cylinder or anything related just let me know.

Same catalogs as we use for Honda and Ford. The line drawings are better than nothing...most of the time. :|

We are a Ford GMC dealer. Separate building's of course. I worked for Ford for 15 years 6 as a tech and rest in parts. They needed help a GMC is the only reason I moved. I cold build a Gm or Ford cyl in my sleep. Unfortunately sometimes I do dream about it. Never can get away from work. Lol

Can we see some pictures? At the very least, some of the blanks should at least have a letter code to identify the keyway.

I wish I could but I dont have a camera. I needed on for a malibu the other day but did not have one. The keys we lost so I couldn't look at it to match it up. We had to go 30 miles to the next dealer to get on. Once we got it back I looked in our junk key box and we had one the whole time. They do not have any markings at all on them.

As you figure out what they are you need to tag them so you'll know for the future.

Does nobody in the whole repair dept have an android or iphone they can take the picture with and upload it to Imgur.com right from their phone?

Maybe I just expect everyone to have a smart phone since it's 2014, or more than likely because I'm an IT guy :D

Well I used to have a nice camera but our house burned down last year and we lost everything. At the time we didnt have a house payment and now we do and the smart phone thing is not high on my list. The techs in the shop work comission and don't need to be bothered but I'll try to get some.

Merry Christmas.

You can cross reference the Strattec number (the people that made the keys for GM) on their site and it will give you an OE number for it.

If they are transponder keys then it is gonna be easy. If it is not a bully key and has pk3 on it, it is for older models and can be used for older chevy like 2000 to 2004 . they could be B99, B97, B103 but to be honest they all have same type of chip and can be programmed , the other chevy is little but bulky and it is for newer chevy and we call it Z Key way, started from 2004 chevy malilbu and it has + sign on the blade which is B111. I don't know if i answered your question but if u provide some pics i can tell you which one is which.
