Which way are bitting codes read?

Hey All,

Having troubles identifying in which way are bitting codes read? From tip of blade, to bow, or the reverse?

I get the impression it likely varies from manufacturer, is there a resource outlining the different usages?

Mostly bow to tip. The ones I can think of that are the other way are ASSA and Best (SFIC). Ultimately it depends on the manufacturer.

perhaps if you asked the specific question about the type of locks you are working on and whether you are using a documented OEM master keying system chart or one that has been provided in the field...

Actually, I'm working on more of a theoretical level, honing my general knowledge. Definitely no charts or anything.

Wish I had become an apprentice before I fell into a career and a mortgage. But alas, will learn as a hobby instead of a profession.
